FAQs

Why did I decide to become a counselor?

My professional experiences led me to want to help others through healing. Counseling affords me the opportunity to support others in being instrumental in their own healing.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew and understood that counseling is a process that is oftentimes emotionally uncomfortable, and that discomfort is often a sign that healing is taking place.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect a welcoming environment, to do most of the talking, and possibly awkward moments as we establish our therapeutic relationship.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I hope to accomplish establishing with the client that there are factors to be normalized of their experience, detailing the process of counseling, and emphasizing that the greatest experience from counseling takes place outside of session.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

Clients need to know that I am honest and direct. Healing can be an uncomfortable process, and honesty is necessary for the process. I find that being direct helps reduce miscommunication and misunderstanding.

How do you define counseling?

I define counseling as a temporary support of tagging in a trained professional to help at a needed moment in your journey. Counseling fills your "toolbox" so you can handle your current experiences and others that may present themselves in the future.

What inspires you?

Reflecting light in the midst of darkness.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy listening to music, reading, laughing until my stomach hurts, winning the battle against Texas weather by keeping my grass alive, and taking naps.

What's the one thing about you that defines you nonprofessionally?

Integrity.

What is an LPC Associate?

A Licensed Professional Counselor Associate holds a masters degree in counseling and a provisionary license, meaning they are currently acquiring the state-mandated hours to become fully licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

What does it mean to be under supervision?

Being supervised means that I meet consistently with a fully-licensed LPC Supervisor to gain competence in the nature of counseling and have ongoing professional development while working to become fully licensed. An LPC Associate must be under supervision to provide counseling services and acquire their hours for full licensure.
